Security officials found justification of terrorism in an audio recording that a Dagestani resident published online.

A criminal case has been opened against a Dagestani resident under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code (public justification of terrorism committed using the internet), the republic's Investigative Committee reported on its Telegram channel.

According to investigators, in May 2023, the man posted audio material on his personal page, accessible to "an unlimited number of internet users," which contained "statements justifying terrorist activity."

"A series of investigative actions aimed at consolidating the evidence base is being carried out in the criminal case," the department reported, without providing further details.

Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code carries penalties ranging from a fine of 300,000 rubles to seven years' imprisonment. freedom.

She was accused of justifying terrorism due to two publications on her Telegram channel: a repost of journalist Orkhan Dzhemal's 2010 text about the attack on Nalchik and a publication about the Taliban movement, which was included on the list of terrorist organizations.

The prosecutor demanded that Kevorkova be sentenced to six years in prison and a fine, but the court only fined her 600,000 rubles. The lawyer stated that the defense will not appeal the verdict, since "it is effectively an acquittal." The prosecution also did not challenge the sentence, and it entered into force. On March 13, 2025, Kevorkova's son organized a fundraiser to pay the fine, and the required amount was collected the following day.

Moreover, on April 17, 2025, the Russian Supreme Court suspended the ban on the Taliban movement. The suspension means that criminal cases related to the Taliban for justifying terrorism must be dismissed, Kevorkova's lawyer stated.
