A Dagestani resident has been charged with inciting terrorism.

FSB officers caught a resident of the village of Usemikent in the Kayakent district making public calls of a terrorist and extremist nature. The case was opened following the publication of a lecture by a preacher online.

According to investigators, in 2018, the suspect posted audio materials of a lecture by a preacher from an international terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation on the social network VKontakte, accessible to the general public.

The lecture, according to investigators, contains calls for violence and armed struggle, and also justifies terrorist activity, the press service of the FSB Directorate for Dagestan reported.

The criminal case is being investigated under articles on public calls for terrorism 1 and public calls for extremist activity 2 .

"Currently, measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved," the press service clarified.

Investigators did not specify in the report which preacher was being referred to or what exactly his lectures were about. The name of the banned terrorist organization was also not provided.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of February, investigators in Dagestan completed a criminal case against a minor resident of the republic. The teenager is charged with public calls for terrorist activity, which carries a sentence of five to seven years in prison.
