A Russian man was convicted in Kuban for treason.

The Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced a Russian citizen to 14 years in prison after finding his money transfer to a Ukrainian serviceman's account to be treason.

The defendant, whose identity is concealed in court records, lived in Sweden. FSB officers detained him in Kuban, where he had arrived, according to them, "to earn money."

According to the prosecution, the man was in Odessa in September 2024 and made a money transfer there to the account of a Ukrainian serviceman who has been fighting against the Russian army since February 2022.

"Being an opponent of the special military operation and desiring its end in favor of Ukraine, he provided financial assistance to a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the joint press service of the Kuban courts said in a statement. The statement does not specify whether the defendant pleaded guilty, nor does it specify the amount of the money transfer.

The court sentenced the man to 14 years in a maximum-security penal colony, a fine of 200,000 rubles, and two years of restricted freedom. The treason charge (Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code) carries a sentence of twelve to twenty years in prison.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in mid-February, security forces reported the arrest of a Krasnodar resident accused of treason "in the form of espionage." He is also charged with inciting terrorism and discrediting the Russian military.
