A fraud case involving a perinatal center has reached court in Ingushetia.

Four residents of Ingushetia will stand trial for embezzling 23 million rubles in contracts to supply medical supplies to the republic's perinatal center.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that the Supreme Court of Ingushetia increased the sentence of Mussa Gezgiev, former head physician of the Republican Oncology Center, replacing his 4.5-year suspended sentence with a full prison term of the same length. The court found that in 2021, Gezgiev entered into a contract with a private supplier from which the oncology center purchased counterfeit cancer medications. The new head physician of the Republican Oncology Dispensary, Magomed-Bashir Balayev, the former Minister of Health of the Republic, was arrested in July on charges of embezzlement of over 53 million rubles, but returned to work in September after his preventive measure was changed to a ban on certain activities.

According to investigators, from June 2022 to September 2024, the defendants, as part of an organized group that also included officials of the perinatal center, entered into 43 fictitious contracts for the supply of medical and household goods, the press service of the Ingushetia Prosecutor's Office reported today.

However, the products were never actually purchased or delivered to the customer. Using forged documents, funds for the supposedly delivered goods were transferred to supplier accounts and then stolen. The damage amounted to approximately 23 million rubles.

Four local residents, one of whom is a sole proprietor and three of whom are general directors of commercial organizations, are accused of fraud committed by an individual using their official position, as part of an organized group, on an especially large scale. 1 .

In February 2022, Madina Ausheva, who fell into a coma after giving birth to her sixth child at the Ingushetia Perinatal Center, was transferred to the Federal Center for Brain and Technology for treatment. Madina had no health complaints before giving birth, according to her family. On January 23, 2022, the death of the newborn child of an Ingushetia resident at the perinatal center was reported. The mother's family believes the child's death was the result of medical negligence and has demanded an investigation. Blogger Adam Khamchiev told the "Caucasian Knot" at the time that the party's branch had already received more than 70 appeals from residents of the republic reporting poor-quality medical services that had led to serious health consequences.
