A Stavropol resident received a prison sentence for justifying terrorism.

A military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a Stavropol resident to two years in prison after security forces deemed a comment justifying terrorist activity.

The 50-year-old Stavropol resident's prosecution stemmed from a comment she left on a messaging app in 2023.

Security forces deemed the comment under a publicly accessible page to be a justification for violent and terrorist acts. "During the investigation, the defendant admitted guilt in the incriminated act and repented of her actions," the regional Investigative Committee reported today.

The woman was found guilty under the article on public justification of terrorism via the internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code), which carries a sentence of five to seven years in prison. The court, however, sentenced her to a significantly more lenient sentence – two years in a general regime penal colony.

The case was heard by the Southern District Military Court. According to the verdict, which has not yet entered into force, the woman shared the ideology of a terrorist organization banned in Russia, and her comment contained a "positive assessment of the group's illegal actions," according to a statement from the Stavropol Krai Prosecutor's Office. The agency did not specify which organization was being referred to.

The Southern District Military Court's records contain a number of cases under this article with recent guilty verdicts. The age of the accused, as stated by investigators, matches Eleonora Romanko, whose sentence was handed down on January 27. She is listed in the Rosfinmonitoring register of terrorists and extremists as a native of Rostov-on-Don, born in 1975. The "Caucasian Knot" does not claim that the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor's Office report refers specifically to her, as the court's files contain similar cases with the defendants' data seized.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of 2025, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Dagestani native Omar Ismailov to four years in prison, finding him guilty of promoting terrorism.
