Gultekin Hajibeyli was detained by security forces in Baku.

Security forces searched the apartment of Gultekin Hajibeyli, a representative of the National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan, and took her to the State Security Service for questioning.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in December 2025, Gultekin Hajibeyli received an official decision on deportation from Turkey for a period of five years. She considered the deportation decision unlawful. In February, Hajibeyli was deported to Azerbaijan.

Gultekin Hajibeyli's apartment was searched today, after which she was taken to the State Security Service, a source in Azerbaijan's security forces told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Gultekin Hajibeyli was detained in November 2025 on the orders of the Azerbaijani authorities, and she was recently deported. Apparently, the detention is connected to the so-called attempted coup, in which they are attempting to link the opposition to the former head of the presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev," the source said. He did not specify Hajibeyli's status.

Gultekin Hajibeyli is involved in the case brought against Ramiz Mehdiyev and several other individuals "as a witness," the Report publication claims.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that Azerbaijani opposition figures had previously linked Hajibeyli's detention in Turkey to the case of PFPA leader Ali Karimli.

In November 2025, Azerbaijan's State Security Service detained PFPA leader Ali Karimli and his advisor Mammad Ibrahim. Both opposition figures were arrested and charged under Article 278.1 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or the violent change of the constitutional order of the state). They denied the charges, and Karimli called his criminal case political persecution. On February 9, Karimli's arrest was extended by four months. On February 12, the State Security Service announced the uncovering of a conspiracy against the country's authorities involving former high-ranking officials and members of the Azerbaijani opposition. Those named in the case include Ali Karimli and former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev, who is under house arrest on charges of attempting a coup.
