A court in Krasnodar has arrested the head of the Department for Cossack Affairs.

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar has remanded in custody Alexander Tararykin, head of the Krasnodar Krai Department for Cossack Affairs, Military Issues, and Work with Pre-Conscription Youth.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," it was reported today that security forces have conducted a search of the home of Alexander Tararykin, head of the Krasnodar Krai Department for Cossack Affairs, suspecting him of abuse of power. The case is related to the misuse of budget funds allocated for the development of the Cossack community: investigators believe that, under Tararykin's influence, the Kuban Cossack Host entered into unfavorable contracts with regional media outlets worth at least 15 million rubles.

Alexander Tararykin, accused of organizing abuse of office by his subordinates, has been sent to a pretrial detention facility by court order. The Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar reviewed the official's arrest petition.

Tararykin has been remanded in custody for two months, until April 19, 2026, the press service of the Kuban courts reported on its Telegram channel.

According to the prosecution, Alexander Tararykin instructed the deputy and acting heads of the Kuban Cossack Cadet Corps to conclude contracts worth over 15 million rubles with Kuban24 Media Group LLC and Kubanskie Novosti Newspaper and Information Complex LLC, even though the corps "clearly had no need" for these media outlets' services.

The Krasnodar Krai administration administers these media outlets. The money was spent, in particular, on the production of a "series film" and a literary work, the report states.
