As reported by "Kavkazsky Uzel," the beaches of Anapa and the Temryuk district are still unsuitable for recreation after the fuel oil spill, stated Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor. She did not rule out that the situation could change by the start of the summer season. In January, Kuban volunteers received 17 reports of fuel oil on the Black Sea coast in Anapa and the Temryuk district. Volunteers reported on the cleanup at all sites.

During a discussion in the Federal Council, Senator from Krasnodar Krai Alexander Trembitsky, commenting on Popova's words, noted that "we have an opposing point of view, which is also supported by science." He asked Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko to instruct the Federation Council Committees on Economic Policy and Social Policy, together with Rospotrebnadzor, to "dive into the issue of maximum permissible concentrations of these substances in the sand, which are currently being discussed," and "to develop some kind of compromise solution so that we allow resort areas of the Krasnodar Territory to open their beaches for the next resort season," Interfax reported on February 4.
