A Rostov-on-Don resident has been accused of treason.

The Southern District Military Court will hear the case of a 40-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don accused of involvement in a terrorist organization and treason.

The case of the Rostov resident, accused of participation in a terrorist organization 1 and treason 2 , was investigated by the FSB Directorate for Krasnodar Krai.

According to the prosecution, the man joined the ranks of the Ukrainian paramilitary group "Legion of Freedom of Russia" (designated a terrorist organization, its activities banned in Russia by a decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation) online no later than November 15, 2023.

According to security officials, he then photographed products manufactured under a state defense contract for the Russian military at an unspecified facility and sent the photos via instant messaging to a representative of the organization. "On November 26, 2023, he transmitted information about the locations of anti-aircraft missile systems in the same manner," the Krasnodar Krai Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. It is unclear whether the defendant has pleaded guilty.

The office noted that the case has been sent to the Southern District Military Court. Among the cases submitted to this court in recent weeks, the case of Sergei Rassadnev matches the list of charges. The first hearing was held on February 4, according to the case file on the court's website.

Rassadnev was born in March 1985 in the city of Zverevo in the Rostov Region, as listed in the Rosfinmonitoring register of terrorists and extremists. Rassadnev's details were added to the list on February 3, according to a message from a Telegram bot tracking list updates.

"Caucasian Knot" wrote that several residents of Kuban had been convicted in cases with a similar plot involving the intention to join the banned "Freedom of Russia Legion." Thus, in early October, a military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Igor Yakovenko to five years in a maximum-security prison. Later in October, Krasnodar resident Marat Barashkin received a seven-year sentence, and Alexey Orlov from Tuapse was sentenced to eight years.
