The director of a management company has been convicted after two people died from gas poisoning in Cherkessk.

The director of a management company in Cherkessk was sentenced to two years of forced labor for the deaths of two people in January 2024 from carbon monoxide poisoning.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in January 2024, two young men died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Cherkessk. A neighboring family received medical assistance. Residents of the building demanded that authorities and utility workers address the issue of non-functioning hoods and clean the ventilation shafts. Special working groups were created to inspect the condition of ventilation shafts. In Karachay-Cherkessia, the head of a management company was found guilty of providing services that did not meet safety requirements and resulted in deaths, following the deaths of two people from carbon monoxide poisoning, Kommersant reported on January 25. The court found that in 2023, the convicted man systematically prepared inspection and cleaning reports for smoke and ventilation ducts in apartment buildings on Kavkazskaya and Kooperativnaya Streets in Cherkessk, when no actual work was performed. He used forged documents as justification for supplying gas to homes.

As a result, in December 2023 and January 2024, due to clogged flues and ventilation, carbon monoxide accumulated in several apartments, poisoning five children and four adults. Two of the victims died, and the others suffered harm.

The court found the head of the management company guilty of four counts under Parts 1 and 3 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code (providing services that do not meet consumer safety and health requirements, which negligently resulted in the death of two people) and Part 5 of Article 327 of the Russian Criminal Code (using a knowingly forged document) and sentenced him to two years of forced labor with a 10% deduction from his wages for the state.
