An Azerbaijani resident has been accused of financing terrorism.

Namik Nabiyev of Azerbaijan is accused of transferring more than $28,000 to the Islamic State*; he claimed to have been collecting donations.

Nabiyev's case is being heard by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

According to investigators, since 2022, Nabiyev has transferred over $28,000 to the bank cards of various individuals on several occasions. All the money was sent to the Islamic State* group, which was used to purchase weapons and other means for terrorist activities, Oxu.az reports.

In his testimony, Nabiyev claims to have been collecting donations. He created a group on a messenger where he shared posts for the fundraiser. Various people sent him money, which he then transferred to their destinations.

Nabiyev has been charged under Articles 167-3.1 (possession of religious extremist materials) and 214-1 (financing terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He faces up to 14 years in prison.

Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in late November, a Baku court found Khagani Omarov, Anar Salamzade, and Elchin Azizov guilty of financing terrorism and sentenced them to terms of 10 to 11 years.

Earlier, Azerbaijani political scientists reported an increase in terrorist threats in the country. Extremists in Azerbaijan are controlled by serious centers from abroad that are not short of funds, noted, in particular, Tofig Turkel.
