Three Azerbaijani residents convicted of financing terrorism

A Baku court found Khagani Omarov, Anar Salamzade, and Elchin Azizov guilty of financing terrorism and sentenced them to terms ranging from 10 to 11 years.

The Baku Grave Crimes Court handed down the verdict on three Azerbaijani residents accused of financing terrorism.

Khagani Omarov, Anar Salamzade, and Elchin Azizov were detained during an operation conducted by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan. According to investigators, they transferred money to individuals living abroad for the purpose of supporting terrorism, Oxu.az reported on November 25.

All three were found guilty of committing a crime under Article 214-1 (financing terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Omarov was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison, Salamzade to 11 years, and Azizov to ten years.

Previously, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in May, four Azerbaijani citizens were brought to Baku after being detained in Pakistan. They are accused of financing terrorism and involvement in an illegal armed group.

Earlier, Azerbaijani political scientists reported an increase in terrorist threats in the country. Extremists in Azerbaijan are controlled by serious centers from abroad that are not short of funds, noted, in particular, Tofig Turkel.
