The editor-in-chief of the "Youth of Dagestan" newspaper has been detained.

Security officials have detained Magomed Magomedov, editor-in-chief of the Molodezh Dagestan newspaper, on suspicion of fraud during his tenure at RIA Dagestan.
 
Magomed Magomedov, editor-in-chief of the Molodezh Dagestan newspaper, was detained on November 21. A criminal case has been opened under the article on fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code), Gayana Gariyeva, head of the press service for the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported today on her Telegram channel "Criminal Chronicle."

According to investigators, Magomedov, while general director of RIA Dagestan, illegally issued orders and hired individuals who did not actually perform their job duties. As a result, he embezzled budget funds over several years.

The suspect also entered into several contracts for various services, but the services were never actually provided, resulting in the theft of budget funds in each instance. Specifically, these actions caused particularly large-scale damage to the State Autonomous Institution of the Republic of Dagestan, the RIA Dagestan, the report states.

Magomed Magomedov graduated from the Institute of Foreign Languages at Dagestan State Pedagogical University. He worked as the director of the Educational Center non-profit partnership, head of the Dagestan State Pedagogical University press service, general director of RIA Dagestan, and director of the Glavkosmos External Communications Center. On April 16, 2025, he became the head of the Molodezh Dagestan newspaper, according to the publication's Telegram channel.
