Kuban authorities have allocated over 439 million rubles for beach restoration.

Over the next two years, Kuban authorities have planned to transfer more than 439 million rubles to the budgets of Anapa and the Temryuk district for beach restoration following the fuel oil spill.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," Anapa's mayor's office initially sued the owners and charterer of the tankers 1 for 211 million rubles, which were spent on cleanup efforts after the Black Sea disaster. At the end of May, the amount of the claim was more than doubled to 545 million rubles, in August to 647.4 million, and in November to 669.2 million in connection with the payment of municipal contracts for emergency response.

The extent of fuel oil pollution in southern Russia

The fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait at the end of 2024 led to widespread pollution of coastal areas and water resources in southern Russia. In the Krasnodar Krai, fuel oil has been detected on all beaches in Anapa, along the coast in the Temryuk district from the village of Veselovka to the village of Blagoveshchenskaya, and along the Azov Sea coast in the Slavyansky district.

Kuban authorities have approved the allocation of over 439 million rubles for the preparation of design and estimate documentation for the restoration of beaches in Anapa and the Temryuk district, according to a resolution posted on the regional administration's website, which was highlighted today by Kommersant.

According to the governor's resolution, in 2026, Anapa's budget will receive 103 million rubles, and the Temryuk district budget will receive 29 million rubles. In 2027, Anapa will receive 240.3 million rubles, and Temryuk District will receive 67.8 million rubles.

"The Ministry of Finance of Krasnodar Krai shall amend the consolidated budget breakdown of the Krasnodar Krai budget for 2025 and for the planning period of 2026 and 2027 with respect to the redistribution of budgetary appropriations for 2026 and 2027 in order to provide other interbudget transfers from the Krasnodar Krai budget to the budgets of municipalities of Krasnodar Krai for the purpose of financially supporting measures to eliminate the consequences of the emergency caused by the oil spill," states the document, dated November 14 and published on November 17.

As a reminder, on December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. A crew member of one of the tankers died as a result.
