The director of a defense company in Rostov-on-Don has been convicted of fraud.

A court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Soslan Urumov, former head of the Aircraft Instrument Repair Plant, to six years in prison after finding him guilty of fraud in the repair of military equipment.

The sentence for Soslan Urumov, former head of the Aircraft Instrument Repair Plant, was handed down by the Sovetsky District Court in Rostov-on-Don.

According to the investigation, Urumov, while director of JSC Aircraft Instrument Repair Plant, part of PJSC Rostvertol, organized a fraudulent scheme to embezzle money from the repair of military equipment. He defrauded officials of the Defense Ministry's military representative office and stole money, causing damage to the state in the amount of over 1.4 million rubles, Kommersant reported on October 3.

The court found him guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (fraud) and sentenced him to six years' imprisonment in a general regime penal colony. He was also banned for three years from engaging in organizational and administrative functions in commercial organizations, 1rnd.ru reports.

The defense announced its intention to appeal the verdict.

Previously, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in November 2022, the FSB Directorate for the Rostov Region announced the arrest of the head of the Zvezda-Strela enterprise, who was suspected of embezzling 15 million rubles. In June 2024, Vladimir Maslensky, director of Zvezda-Strela, was sentenced to four years in prison. He was found guilty of embezzling 42 million rubles from the Russian Ministry of Defense. In March, the cassation court reduced the sentence to three years and two months.
