Regular sea routes between Sochi and Sukhumi have started

The flight from Sochi to Sukhum opened a regular sea service, flights will be operated on weekends. Due to the arrival of the "Kometa", Abkhazian ships were removed from the port of Sukhum.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on August 7, the first test flight from Sochi to the capital of Abkhazia, Sukhum was made by the sea passenger ship "Kosmonavt Pavel Popovich" of the "Kometa 120M" type. In the future, the carrier may launch regular sea service between the cities.

Today, the high-speed ship "Kometa" started operating between Sochi and Sukhum. Capacity - 120 passengers, travel time - about 2.5 hours. Flights will be operated every week on weekends until October. Russian citizens only need a passport, but they must pass customs control in advance, Channel One reported.

The Kometa vessel set off on its first regular voyage from Sochi to Sukhum with a load of about 90%, TASS reported, citing a representative of the ship owner, Pavel Marukhin.

Due to the Kometa, Abkhazian vessels were again expelled from the Sukhum port, Aiashara reported. The entrance to the capital's pier is blocked by various services. This situation will remain until all passengers of the Kometa leave the vessel. Abkhazian vessels have not been able to enter the port during this time, even despite the passengers they have on board, the publication claims.

On August 30, regular sea service on the high-speed Kometa will be launched on the Sochi-Sukhum-Sochi route. Flights will be operated on weekends weekly until October 1. Travel time is 2 hours. One-way ticket costs 1,000-1,500 rubles, round-trip ticket costs up to 2,500 rubles. Tickets can be purchased at ticket office No. 1 of the seaport. The ship "Cosmonaut Pavel Popovich" can accommodate up to 120 passengers and is equipped with air conditioning and comfortable seats, the Sochi administration reported on August 29.

Recall that on May 1, the first regular flight in 32 years from Moscow to Sukhum (the Georgian name of the city is Sukhumi) was made by the airline "UVT Aero". The flight, designed for 50 seats, was used by 49 passengers. Georgia and the European Union condemned the launch of regular flights between Russia and Abkhazia, calling it a violation of Georgia's territorial integrity.

The high cost of flights to Sukhum reduces the benefits of regular flights between Russia and Abkhazia; it is much cheaper to fly to Sochi and from there travel to Abkhazia, social media users pointed out. Prices for flights from Moscow to Sukhum are significantly higher than the cost of a flight from Moscow to Sochi.
