Rostov court finds Kherson region resident guilty of treason

A court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a resident of the Kherson region Vyacheslav Popovich to 27 years in prison, finding him guilty of treason and participation in a terrorist organization.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a member of the Ukrainian battalion Vyacheslav Popovich.

According to the investigation, Popovich was a resident of the Kherson region and received a Russian passport. In October 2023, he joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces, took part in combat operations as a grenade launcher operator on the territory of the DPR and LPR, and was captured in May 2024, Kommersant wrote on August 22.

Popovich was found guilty under Articles 275 (high treason), Part 2 of Article 205.5, and Article 205.3 (participation in a terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He was sentenced to 27 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony with the first five years to be served in prison.

Earlier, "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote that on August 15, the court sentenced Crimean resident Alina Grek to 15 years in prison for preparing to set fire to a relay cabinet.
