Recognized losses of southern Russia in Ukraine reach 7,150

Official authorities and representatives of security agencies have released data on 7,150 servicemen from the south of Russia killed in combat operations in Ukraine, of which 3,600 were in the Southern Federal District and 3,550 in the North Caucasus Federal District.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, by July 27, officials and security forces publicly admitted that at least 7,100 servicemen from the south of Russia were killed in the combat zone in Ukraine: 3,529 fighters from the North Caucasus Federal District and 3,571 from the Southern Federal District.

Northern Military District statistics: losses are growing for the south of Russia

"Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list is based on data officially announced by government officials and security agencies.

As of August 7, the number of servicemen from the south of Russia whom government officials have publicly acknowledged as killed in combat in Ukraine is at least 7,150, according to the "Caucasian Knot" calculations. There are 3,600 killed combatants in the Southern Federal District, and 3,550 in the North Caucasus Federal District.

Dagestan remains the leader in the number of those killed in the North Caucasus Federal District, with at least 1,492. Stavropol Krai accounts for 782 killed servicemen, and North Ossetia for 470. In Kabardino-Balkaria, 280 fighters have been publicly acknowledged as killed1, in Chechnya – 2422, in Karachay-Cherkessia - 144, in Ingushetia - 140.

In the Southern Federal District, the largest number of killed (1280) is in the Volgograd Region. Krasnodar Krai accounts for 776 killed soldiers, Rostov Oblast - 702. Astrakhan Oblast authorities named 586 killed soldiers, Kalmykia authorities - 167, and officials in Adygea - 89.

Recall that the first government representative to report that a Russian soldier was killed in the SVO zone was the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov. On February 26, 2022, he reported that officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov was killed in Ukraine.

The head of Chechnya, unlike the leaders of a number of other regions, extremely rarely reports data on losses at the front. Moreover, in February 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov said that regional leaders should not report data on the number of deaths in Ukraine, calling for "no comment on losses," although he himself had previously reported the deaths of Chechen fighters.

The unevenness of the data published by the authorities on the deaths of Chechens in Ukraine against the backdrop of reports of the extremely active participation of people from the republic in the fighting makes one doubt that the official information on Chechen losses corresponds to reality. In addition, the quantitative assessment of these losses is complicated by the scarcity of data on the dead: the Chechen authorities name those who are awarded posthumously or immortalized in their native settlements, according to the Caucasian Knot article "North Caucasian security forces have already died in the SVO in 2 years, 4 times more than in the conflict in the North Caucasus over the past 12 years".
