Protesters clash with law enforcers in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, a protest action has turned into protesters’ clashes with law enforcers; policemen detaining at least one person.

On April 20, the 144th day of continuous protests, traffic along Rustaveli Avenue was again blocked by protesters. They demanded new parliamentary elections and the release of all those detained during protests. At the protest venue, law enforcers have detained two people and accused them of disobeying police.

During the protests, over a thousand people were subjected to administrative prosecution. A total of 64 persons were charged under criminal articles in connection with the protests.

Cries of "Freedom for regime’s prisoners!" were heard at the protest venue; and some protesters unfurled Georgian flags.

Policemen called on protesters to clear the roadway, but the crowd refused to obey. After this, a confrontation broke out near the parliament building of protesters with law enforcers, who began driving protesters away from the roadway.

Then, protesters moved to Leonidze Street and tried to block traffic there, but the police did not allow them to do so and demanded that they vacate the territory.

After this, another confrontation occurred of law enforcers with protesters. The marchers also tried to occupy the pedestrian crossing, which led to a clash with the police. As a result, law enforcers detained one protester and took him away, the “Interpressnews” Agency has informed.
