Adam Kadyrov’s awarding is based on arbitrary interpretation of merits

The awarding Adam Kadyrov with the medal "For Battle Honours" became possible due to the arbitrary interpretation of his merits by the bosses of the “Rosgvardiya” (Russian National Guard), analysts have noted.

By the order of Victor Zolotov, Director of “Rosgvardiya”, the 17-year-old son of the head of Chechnya, Adam Kadyrov, was awarded the medal "For Battle Honours".

Timofei Shirokov, an advocate, has noted that ministerial awards are given by order of the boss thereof, but in the issue of presenting awards "there is always a lot of arbitrariness."

"I doubt that there is any age limit. Moreover, the award is issued on behalf of the head of the ministry. Remember how Soviet Union awards were given to foreign figures, although they had nothing to do with services to the USSR," the advocate has explained, adding that the wording "battle honours" can also be interpreted differently. "Maybe they wrote that he had shown bravery near the frontline. And then he told his classmates about the work of the ‘Rosgvardiya’, that is, he was campaigning," Mr Shirokov has suggested.

On June 18, 2024, Ramzan Kadyrov reported that Adam Kadyrov had accompanied Adam Delimkhanov, a Russian State Duma MP, who met in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol "with Chechen fighters involved in maintaining public order." On April 28 of the same year, Kadyrov announced the appointment of Adam as curator of the Russian Special Forces University.

Evgeny Chernousov, an advocate, has also noted that decoration with this award depends on the opinion of the ministry bosses.

In his turn, Amir Kolov, a retired Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), believes that age is not an obstacle to receiving such an award.

"Maybe he (Adam) saved people in a vehicle in Mariupol from hitting a mine or expressed some idea for solving some ‘Rosgvardiya’ problems," he has suggested.
