Kadyrov orders to confiscate foodstuffs with unjustified mark-ups

Ramzan Kadyrov has ordered to step up raids and confiscate the foodstuffs from the sellers who sell them under unjustified mark-ups and distribute them to those in need, planning to prevent price growth before the Eid al-Fitr.

On the eve of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Chechnya has seen foodstuff price growth. Residents are forced to buy food in neighbouring regions, but they fear that the food will be confiscated at checkpoints under the pretext of supporting local entrepreneurs. The Deputy Mufti of Chechnya called on entrepreneurs not to raise prices during Ramadan. These calls are too late, since prices have already grown significantly, social network commentators have noted.

Magomed Daudov, the head of the Chechen Govt, has explained that prices rise in Chechnya every year during the month of Ramadan. Unscrupulous sellers explain this by the increase in purchase prices in connection with the upcoming celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

In his Telegram channel, the head of Chechnya promised to take "exhaustive measures" to prevent the price growth. He has also called for the confiscation of foodstuffs from those who unreasonably inflate prices.
