After collecting signatures against construction on embankment, activist Antonova warned by police

The police have issued a warning about the inadmissibility of violations to Yana Antonova, an activist, who was collecting signatures from Krasnodar residents to the petition against the development of Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment.

On September 4, Yana Antonova began collecting signatures in the Yubileiny Microdistrict of Krasnodar to the petition to the governor against the development of Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment. By September 21, at least 2000 signatures had been collected.

On September 3, Yana Antonova held a solo picket near the Krasnodar Mayoralty, calling for the prevention of the construction on the Kuban River embankment, where a church is planned to be built. She has explained that in the Yubileiny Microdistrict, this is the only large recreation area.

According to Yana Antonova, when she went out to collect signatures at one of the shopping centres, policemen approached her and took an explanation that she was collecting signatures. After that, they left but soon they returned and handed a warning to her "about the inadmissibility of actions that create conditions for committing crimes and administrative offenses."

On September 25, law enforcers detained Alexander Safronov, a Krasnodar Duma MP, and Vitaly Cherkasov, an activist, while collecting signatures against the embankment development. Both were accused of violating the order of organizing a public event.

Back in December 2021, activists opposed the construction of a new church on the embankment in Krasnodar; and residents of the Yubileiny Microdistrict also protested against it. The embankment defenders believe it is necessary to build educational and leisure facilities for children in the microdistrict.
