Ingush activist Sautieva placed to punishment cell because of her tights’ colour

The administration of the penal colony in Zelenokumsk placed Zarifa Sautieva to a punishment cell for 15 days to punish her for wearing the wrong-coloured tights to an inspection formation, since she was not given any others, her relative explained. When commenting on Telegram on the Zarifa Sautieva’s punishment, residents of Ingushetia noted that it violated human rights.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 18, it became known that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) found that the authorities of Russia violated the article on the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment in relation to Zarifa Sautieva. The ECtHR obliged the authorities to pay her 1000 euros in compensation.

“At the inspection formation, which was supposed to be attended by the head of the penal colony, all convicts were required to wear flesh-coloured tights. Zarifa, citing the cold weather, put on black warm leggings, since she was not given flesh-coloured ones,” explained a relative of Zarifa Sautieva as quoted by the “Fortanga” Telegram channel.

Later, Zarifa Sautieva obeyed the instructions of the penal colony administration and put on flesh-coloured tights. However, for the evening inspection formation, she again put on warm tights, since it was cold outside. For that, the penal colony administration placed Zarifa Sautieva to a punishment cell.

The punishment cell in the Zelenokumsk women’s penal colony is a small concrete cell, said a former prisoner. ‘Anything can happen to you there, and you won’t be able to prove anything,” she noted.

The woman has added that the head of the penal colony in Zelenokumsk finds faults of prisoners in every little thing.

One of the defendants in the “Ingush case” who has been set free suggests that placing to a punishment cell is a way of pressuring political prisoners convicted in cases related to protests.
