Armed incident in KChR is the first in 2.5 years

The attack on policemen committed in the Karachay District, as a result of which two law enforcers were killed, was preceded by a counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in the same district of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) on November 26, 2021. Two suspected militants were then killed.

At night in Karachaevsk, a patrol-and-post unit was attacked; two law enforcers were killed, and one was wounded. The law enforcers were shelled while they were patrolling the territory. Unknown attackers seized Kalashnikov submachine guns and cartridges, the "Mash.ru" outlet reports.

The previous CTO was announced in the Karachay District attack on November 26, 2021. Then, two suspected militants were killed, who, according to investigators, had planned a terror act. The CTO was held in a mountainous area near the village of Kamennomost.

Before the operation in the Karachay District, law enforcers had not reported on any CTOs in the republic since 2017. On December 18, 2017, the CTO regime was introduced in the Zelenchuksky District. Then, in a shootout, law enforcers killed five people.
