Adygea: Mukhortov transferred from isolation cell to normal ward in prison hospital

Alexander Mukhortov, a resident of Sochi, who had complained about threats after his material about torture used in a Saratov colony appeared in media, has been transferred from the isolation cell of a prison hospital in Adygea to a ward with normal living conditions, his wife has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported with reference to Irina Yatsko, Mukhortov's wife that Alexander was placed into a punishment cell with unbearable conditions. She said that she had directed her complaints to several bodies; and Victor Mitriy, the head of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) for Adygea, has reacted most promptly.

After appealing to human rights defenders, Mukhortov was transferred to another hospital ward, about the conditions in which he has no complaints, Ms Yatsko has stated, adding that she learned about it from a reliable source.

According to her story, on April 12, Victor Mitriy, together with a doctor, a POC member, visited Mukhortov. "The doctor examined my husband, diagnosed him with intercostal neuralgia and prescribed some treatment," Irina Yatsko has reported.

Sergey Romanov, a member of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT)*, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that a lawyer would be sent to Adygea to investigate the Mukhortov's case.

*In 2015, the "Committee against Torture" (CaT) was included in the register of non-commercial organizations (NCOs) performing the functions of a foreign agent. In this regard, the leaders liquidated the CaT and created a new legal entity – the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), which was also labelled as a foreign agent and closed. Currently, the CaT operates as an unregistered public association.
