Baku police prevent rallies near Russian Embassy

Today, law enforcers have not allowed the human rights organization “Line of Protection” holding a rally in front of the Russian Embassy in connection with human rights violations in Ukraine.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that protests are taking place in Baku after the start of the special military operation by the Russian troops in Ukraine. On February 24, two activists held a protest action in front of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan. They requested the authorities of Azerbaijan to break the alliance agreement with Russia. On February 27, in Baku, a mass rally in support of Ukraine was held in front of the Ukrainian Embassy.

The NGO “Line of Protection” intended to hold a protest action near the Russian Embassy today in connection with the violation of human rights on the territory of Ukraine. However, the police have blocked the way for protestors, explaining their actions by security requirements, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.

On the way to the embassy, members of the NGO “Line of Protection” read out a statement in Russian and Azerbaijani languages. Zafar Akhmedov, the deputy chair of the “Line of Protection”, has noted that the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) and the civilian population are violated in Ukraine, journalists cannot work normally, residential buildings and social buildings, the municipal system, schools, kindergartens, and hospitals are being destroyed. Rufat Safarov, the chair of the “Line of Protection”, called on the UN and international organizations to intervene in the situation.
