Daudov proposes to ban any mention of criminals’ nationality

After an incident in New Moscow, the Chechen parliament prepared for submission to the State Duma of Russia a bill banning the mention in the media and social media of information on the ethnic and religious affiliation of criminals.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, commented on the incident in New Moscow, where a group of young people beat up two men, one of whom was carrying a small child. Ramzan Kadyrov said that the special services must find the provocateurs who mistakenly called the attackers natives of Northern Caucasus.

Today, the parliament of Chechnya has made a decision to submit to the State Duma of Russia a draft of amendments to Article 4 of the Federal Law “On the Mass Media” and to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. Chechen MPs propose to impose a ban on the dissemination both in the media and in the information and telecommunication networks of any information about the nationality and religion of “persons involved in the commission of crimes.” The MPs proposed to bring violators to administrative responsibility.

Chechen parliament speaker Magomed Daudov explains the legislative initiative “by the need to preserve interethnic and interfaith harmony and peace.” “The posting of such information is regarded as an insult to the national and religious feelings of honest, respectable citizens, true believers, who have nothing to do with criminal activity,” Magomed Daudov emphasized.
