Saakashvili's advocates complain about refusal to visit their client

The administration of the Rustavi Prison is not letting the advocates of Mikhail Saakashvili, a former Georgian President, to visit him, despite the fact that he went on a hunger strike after detention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 1, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili was detained after he returned to Georgia. He was placed into the Rustavi Prison, where he announced a hunger strike.

The advocates, Nika Gvaramiya and Dmitry Sadzaglishvili, have stated that they were not allowed to visit Saakashvili, held the Rustavi Prison. "The detention of the former president is an extraordinary, non-standard situation; therefore, they were obliged to let us to him at any time within 24 hours," the edition has quoted lawyer Mr Sadzaglishvili as saying today.

The defence was denied a visit to Saakashvili amid the hunger strike announced by him, said Nika Gvamariya, a lawyer, who is also the director general of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel. "The [hunger strike] is a very important circumstance, and it worries me the most now," the TV Channel has quoted Mr Gvamariya as saying.
