Social media users surprised by Kadyrov's historical statements

Chechnya has never been independent; and national heroes had tried to bring it to its present form, Ramzan Kadyrov has stated. This interpretation of folk heroes' aspirations has caused bewilderment among Instagram users.

Ramzan Kadyrov has shared his history vision at an expanded sitting of the republic's government.

"We never had independence and statehood. If Sheikh Mansur wanted independence, he would not have reached Gelendjik, but would have conquered the republic and created a state here with its own flag and coat of arms. But he conquered the entire Caucasus and reached Anapa," the edition "Kavkaz. Realii"* quoted on September 3 the head of Chechnya as saying.

Kadyrov has noted that the Chechen national heroes, Sheikh Mansur, Baisangur Benoevsky, Taimin Bibolat and Adin Surkho, "had striven to create Chechnya in its present form."

A post about Kadyrov's speech at the sitting was also placed in the Instagram page of the "Kavkaz. Realii"*. Most of the commentators have criticized the Kadyrov's statement.

"What kind of independence is he talking about?! Chechnya was independent in Shamil's imamate," the user dagestanskiy__807 has written. "In his opinion, all the heroes of the Caucasus fought against being taken into slavery," the user a.vorkutinsky has concluded.

Some users were surprised that these words could have been uttered by the head of Chechnya.

"I have an impression that this video was posted by some Kadyrov's enemy in order to discredit him," the user kardanov2157 has suggested ironically.
