Chechen law enforcers punish authors of inscriptions on road bumpers

In the Vedeno District, police found the people who had left inscriptions on the bumpers on the highway in Kezenoi-Am and forced them to paint the inscriptions over, the head of the Chechen Ministry of Tourism has announced, treating it as "public works."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechnya is widely using the practice of out-of-court involvement in public works of people who have displeased local officials. Thus, in July, Magomed Djabrailov, a teacher from the village of Alkhan-Kaly was involved in public works for false reports to Ramzan Kadyrov about fake vaccination of his colleagues.

The authors of the graffiti made on bumpers on the highway in Kezenoi-Am were punished with public works, "during which they restored the appearance of the structures they had damaged," the "Grozny-Inform" News Agency reported on August 1 with reference to Muslim Baitaziev, the Chechen Minister of Tourism.

Late in the evening on August 1, Mr Baitaziev himself posted a video in his Instagram account showing how at least four young men with buckets of paint were covering the inscriptions on concrete road bumpers under the supervision of a policeman.

Two days earlier, on July 30, in his account, the Minister expressed his indignation at the appearance of inscriptions on the bumpers. He posted in his page a video and a photo of the bumpers, on which the names of Chechen dwelling settlements, male and female names, as well as the license plate numbers of cars were inscribed.

In their comments to the Minister's posts, social network users have enthusiastically supported both his indignation and the decision to punish the perpetrators with public works.
