Maikop residents claim death of their relative after being beaten by law enforcers

Pavel Zaporozhtsev, a resident of Maikop, was severely beaten by law enforcers and died from injuries in a hospital, his relatives claimed. According to Valery Brinikh, a member of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the leader of Adygea, investigators are trying to hush up the case.

On July 17, Pavel Zaporozhtsev, a resident of Maikop, was taken to a unit of the law enforcement body and died on the other day, the Investigating Department for Adygea of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported. The spokesperson for the ICRF’s Investigating Department reports the investigation into the circumstances of the Pavel Zaporozhtsev’s death is underway.

According to Valery Brinikh, “investigators make all efforts to try to hush up the incident and pretend that nothing had happened.” “Even if a drunken person made a row, he should be brought to justice, but not killed with extreme cruelty. After all, such injuries can hardly be inflicted with fists. Most likely, they were beating the lying person and trampling him with their feet. I promise that the law enforcement bodies will not be able to hush up the case,” Valery Brinikh emphasized.

Relatives of Pavel Zaporozhtsev filed a complaint to the ICRF’s Investigating Department for Adygea and stated that the deceased man was beaten after his detention. According to Alexei Zaporozhtsev, a Pavel’s brother, law enforcers reported only verbally about the injuries, including multiple ruptures of internal organs, and they failed to issue an appropriate document to the relatives. The victim underwent surgery, but died on the night of July 20.
