On July 12-18, 2021, no one fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of July 12-18, 2021, no killed or wounded in the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Detentions

Four residents of Ingushetia were detained on July 13 and 15. According to the investigators’ version, in 2011-2015, the men were aiding and abetting the people while being aware that they were militants. The suspects supplied the members of the armed underground with food and transported them in cars across the territory of Ingushetia.

On July 17, the police detained a suspect in a case on an armed attack on policemen who were guarding the central republican hospital in Nazran in June 2014. The suspect became the sixth detainee in the case.

Judicial Chronicle

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) awarded compensation in the amount of 170,000 euros to four Chechens who complained that in 2002-2006, law enforcers tortured them to force to confess to terrorism. The ECtHR recognized that Articles 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) and Article 13 of the European Convention on Human Rights (right to effective remedy) were violated with regard to Eldar Orazbaev, Muslim Zulkarnaev, Timur Satabaev, and Umar Chapanov.

Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
