Sister of Mozdok resident beaten by law enforcer complained about threats

A woman from the resident of Mozdok, a city in North Ossetia-Alania, who has been seeking for the third year the initiation of a criminal case against the law enforcer who had beaten up her brother, has complained about threats received from law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Yulia, a sister of Rostislav Melnichenko, a Mozdok resident, said that on March 11, 2019, he was beaten by a law enforcer and hospitalized with a fractured jaw. On October 20, 2020, in a video message, she complained to President Vladimir Putin about the refusals to investigate the beating of her brother. In their turn, investigators asserted that Melnichenko himself attacked the law enforcer, and the latter had to defend himself.

Yulia Melnichenko, Rostislav's sister, has stated that she is receiving threats from law enforcers and unknown individuals who promise to take revenge. She has noted that the law enforcer's family tried to resolve the conflict financially.

In his testimonies, the law enforcer insists that Rostislav's jaw was broken by his friends or relatives just to denigrate the law enforcer and receive compensation. The witnesses – also two law enforcers – claim they had not seen the moment of the blow.

The North-Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated that the law enforcer's guilt was not established, and the harm to Melnichenko's health was inflicted in 2018, and had nothing to do with the conflict.
