Rights defenders assess Pogorov's role in Ingush case

The detention of Akhmed Pogorov, the co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, within the case of the rally in Magas in 2019 will not affect the trial of the protest leaders, since the trial has already shown the inconsistency of charges against activists, human rights defenders believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that an advocate announced the detention of Akhmed Pogorov, who is accused of organizing violence against law enforcers at a rally in Magas in 2019.

Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the human rights organization "Mashr", has doubted that Pogorov could become a key figure in the trial of protest leaders. He believes that this case has shown law enforcers' incompetence, while the defendants were presented as heroes.

Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee, has treated Pogorov's detention as a special services' success – "in the sense that they managed to detain a person who had been successfully hiding from them for so long."
