Seven Armenian natives convicted after conflict with Azerbaijanis in Moscow

The natives of Armenia, detained after the attack on the Azerbaijani restaurant "1001 Nights" in Moscow during the escalation of hostilities on the two countries' border in July 2020, have been sentenced to two years in prison each.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 24, 2020, clashes occurred in Moscow between natives of Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to law enforcers, seven natives of Armenia and eight natives of Azerbaijan were arrested. Human rights defenders noted that such clashes happened in Moscow before, but they were not so large-scale.

Sergey Sarkisov and God Nisanov, billionaires from Moscow Diasporas asked their fellow countrymen to stop clashes amid the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.

Seven nationals have been found guilty of hooliganism and sentenced to two years in colonies, the "Kommersant" writes.

According to investigators, Artak and Seiran Nikoyan, Armen and Arsen Apriyan, Argisht and Nareg Petrosyan, as well as Razmig Saakyan, armed with knives and bats, broke into the restaurant and began destroying the facility. A guard was wounded when trying to stop them.

The clashes of natives of Azerbaijan and Armenia were triggered by reports that trucks with Armenian goods were taken out of the "Food City" marketplace, owned by God Nisanov, an entrepreneur of Azerbaijani origin. Members of the Armenian Diaspora demanded from Russian authorities to intervene in the marketplace situation. In its turn, the Azerbaijani Diaspora treated the incident as a businessmen's private conflict.
