Tbilisi court supports detained activists

A Tbilisi court acquitted two out of eight detained protesters accused of failure to obey to the legal requests of the police. Other three protestors got warnings from the court. The decision on the rest detainees was postponed at a request from their advocates.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 21, in Tbilisi, the police detained eight activists who were trying to set up a tent during a protest rally dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the first Georgian Constitution. The activists considered the police actions as a violation of their right to freedom of assembly.

According to the police, the protestors were "repeatedly offered" to move to an alternative place to set up tents and urged to obey to the legal requests by the police. The activists planned to give lectures on the history of Georgia from tents.
