Police detain ten activists near Georgian parliament building

In Tbilisi, civil activists were detained in Rustaveli Avenue after they tried to set up a tent at the central entrance to the Georgian parliament building.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 25, 2020, several activists who did not agree with the election results set up tents to hold a round-the-clock protest action in front of the parliament building.

Employees of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) detained 10 activists who had gathered in front of the parliament building and tried to set up tents. The activists were detained for failure to obey to requests of the police, the RIA "Novosti" reports today.

The activists also tried to block Rustaveli Avenue, but the police prevented them from doing that. Activist Giorgi Mumladze read out to the policemen who gathered in front of the parliament building an abstract from the Georgian law on assemblies and demonstrations, which did not prohibit installation of tents. After that, the activist was detained by the police, the "Formula" TV Channel reported.

Despite the detention of a number of activists, the confrontation in front of the parliament building continued: the activists tried to move their tents, which stood at the upper entrance to the parliament building for two months, to the central entrance of the building. The protesters say they do not intend to leave the place.
