South-Ossetian MPs reproach GPO for meddling in politics

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of South Ossetia has groundlessly assessed the work of the Parliament, since it is beyond its mission, the MPs from three parties have stated. Inal Djabiev's relatives said that they continue their protest action in a Tskhinvali square.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since autumn 2020, 14 South-Ossetian MPs have been boycotting the sessions of the Parliament and are seeking the resignation of Uruzmag Djagaev, Public Prosecutor General, in connection with the resonant inquiry into the death of Inal Djabiev, a resident of Tskhinvali.

In the evening on February 18, MPs from the "Nykhas", "For Justice" and People's Party factions adopted an appeal in which they criticized the region's GPO for assessing the work of the Parliament. The oppositional MPs believe that the GPO has become a player in the political process and is fighting against the Parliament.

Meanwhile, activists continue coming to Theatre Square, where Inal Djabiev's relatives have been holding an endless protest action for the third month already, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Inal Djabiev died after being interrogated by the police under the case of an attempt on the life of Igor Naniev, the head of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). In context of Djabiev's death, eight policemen were detained; and Andrei Tskhovrebov, Naniev's deputy, was removed from his post. Djabiev's relatives are unhappy with the progress of the investigation. In January, Oksana Sotieva, Imal's widow, headed the movement in defence of South-Ossetians' rights entitled "Law. Justice. Inal Djabiev", which aims to restore justice and legality in the region.

Inal Djabiev's widow, mother and sister replace each other at the action. "Almost all this time my three children have been with my grandmother. Since the start of winter, I hardly see them. I am here all the time. Inal's mother is an elderly woman. She is also tired and exhausted. But in the hope that authorities will hear her, she continues staying here," Oksana Sotieva, Inal's widow, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In South Ossetia, the mid-February is snowy and frosty. This complicates the conditions of the action, said Madina, one of the activists. "This does not fit into my head. If you think about it, they've spent the whole winter outdoors. I think it is extremely cruel not to hear these people in the tragedy that befell them," she told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
