Law enforcers' actions after detentions in Makhachkala give rise to criticism

Repeated summons of Makhachkala residents detained on January 23 to police stations, as well as law enforcers visits to them, are an attempt to intimidate activists, lawyers believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that despite law enforcers' warnings, Alexei Navalny's supporters held rallies in his support. In Makhachkala, law enforcers detained people who did not intend to participate in protests, townspeople have reported.

Overall, 72 persons were taken to police stations in Makhachkala, 19 of them are minors, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported in the Telegram channel of the "Dagestanskaya Pravda" newspaper.

Policemen have already demanded to write several explanatory notes, said a female student detained on January 23. According to her story, she was threatened with expulsion if "this happens again." Besides, she was forced to sign the "warning about the inadmissibility of participating in public actions."

She told that she had come to the square with a poster and was going to participate in the rally.

All detainees are likely to be put on the "prophylactic registry, Shamil Magomedov, a lawyer, has suggested.

Law enforcers' summons to police stations or their visits homes can be an attempt to intimidate activists, Marat Ismailov, a lawyer, believes.
