Chechen authorities: Grozny residents ask to name mosque after Ramzan Kadyrov

A future mosque in the village of Olympiyskiy in Grozny will be named after Ramzan Kadyrov, although he did not voice such a wish, the authorities of Chechnya report. Users of a pro-government Instagram public account, including Chechen officials, expressed their approval of the initiative.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2020, when the 69th anniversary of Akhmat Kadyrov's birth was celebrated, a mosque and a medrese named after him were opened in the village of Djalka in the Gudermes District. Mosques named after Sulim Kadyrov, an uncle of the first president of Chechnya, were opened in the villages of Turty-Khutor and Oiskhara.

According to the "Grozny-inform" agency, in 2020, more than 30 mosques were built in Chechnya, and over 70 new are under construction.

It has been decided to name the new mosque after Ramzan Kadyrov "at the numerous requests of residents" against the wishes of the leader of Chechnya himself, the "Grozny" TV Channel reports on its Instagram page.

In July 2020, Chechen public sector employees got instructions to write laudatory comments about the authorities' actions. According to employees of public sector institutions, they have to write posts in support of Ramzan Kadyrov under a threat of dismissal.
