Russia and Turkey agree to monitor ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Russian and Turkish armed forces signed an agreement to open a monitoring centre in Azerbaijan, which would monitor violations of the ceasefire using drones.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 11, Russia and Turkey decided to create in Azerbaijan a centre to control the compliance with the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. Today, the Azerbaijani armed forces took control over the Lachin District (the Armenian name is Kashatag District, – note of the "Caucasian Knot").

The activities of the monitoring centre will be aimed at supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and ensuring peace and stability in Southern Caucasus, Turkish National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar announces.

According to Azad Isazade, a former officer of the information-analytical department of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan, the monitoring centre may be located on the Azerbaijani side in the territories over which Baku regained control during the 44-day war, including in the city of Shusha.

Azad Isazade also suggests that the Turkish military personnel will participate directly in the peacekeeping operation. Furthermore, the Russian and Turkish military personnel may conduct joint patrolling of the territories.
