Nagorno-Karabakh accuses Azerbaijan of a shelling attack on Martuni

The Nagorno-Karabakh Service for Emergencies has reported about an air raid on the city of Martuni, while the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan claims that it does not use military aircrafts and abides by the ceasefire.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time (6:00 a.m. local time), a new agreement on the humanitarian truce in the Karabakh conflict zone has entered into force. The parties to the conflict have promised to adhere to the ceasefire agreement this time. However, within the first hours, they have accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

For more news on the Karabakh conflict escalation, see: 'Karabakh: a Good War Or a Bad Peace' section.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Service for Emergencies also reports that Azerbaijan has violated the ceasefire. "Recently, the enemy grossly violated the ceasefire agreement reached for humanitarian purposes and began shelling the regional centre of Martuni (the Azerbaijani name is Khodjavend, – note of the 'Caucasian Knot')," reports the Nagorno-Karabakh Service for Emergencies as translated from the Armenian language by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Unan Tadevosyan, the spokesman for the Nagorno-Karabakh Service for Emergencies, informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about the air strikes. "The enemy used military aircrafts against the city of Martuni," Unan Tadevosyan said. The entire population of the city stays in shelters, the Martuni City Mayoralty reports.

Azerbaijan does not use military aircrafts and abides by the ceasefire, the Azerbaijani MoD reports today. "The dissemination by the Armenian side of the information about the alleged use of military aircrafts by Azerbaijan is a lie and new misinformation. We declare that Azerbaijan complies with the agreement on the new humanitarian ceasefire regime," reports the Azerbaijani MoD as quoted by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
