Advocate states non-admission to Azerbaijani activist Gakhramanly

A court in Baku has dismissed the defence's petition to transfer Fuad Gakhramanly, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), to house arrest. Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, the advocate on agreement, has stated that he was not allowed to visit Gakhramanly and sent a complaint to the Public Prosecutor General.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Fuad Gakhramanly was detained on July 24 in connection with the July 15 rally in Baku.

On September 18, the Nasimi District Court of Baku considered the defence's petition asking to transfer Fuad Gakhramanly to house arrest. At the court session, he was represented by Araz Gasanov, the appointed advocate. The court dismissed the petition, Tezekhan Miralamli, the PFPA spokesman, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He called the situation with Gakhramanly "strange." "He is isolated from the outside world in every possible way. True, on Friday (September 18) he was brought to court. However, petitions to change the freedom restraint measure are considered behind closed doors. The appointed advocate wouldn't provide exhaustive information. Earlier, a month ago, Fuad Gakhramanly under strange circumstances, during a one-minute meeting, rejected the advocate, Bakhruz Bairamly. Now, his relatives have attracted a new lawyer, Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, but for almost 20 days, the investigator fails to introduced him to Gakhramanly," Mr Miralamli has stated.

Araz Gasanov, the appointed advocate, has noted that the defence will appeal against the refusal to transfer Fuad to house arrest. He refrained from disclosing what Gakhramanly spoke about in court.

Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, the advocate hired by the Gakhramanly family, said that on September 2, he presented the agreement with the family to the investigating authority; however, he has not yet been admitted to the client. "In this regard, I've sent a complaint to the Public Prosecutor General," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
