On 13th days of his hunger strike, Tofig Yagublu rejects medical help

Tofig Yagublu, an Azerbaijani oppositionist, who is under intensive care, has refused medications, his daughter has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2, oppositionist Tofig Yagublu declared a hunger strike. On the other day, the court sentenced him to four years and three months of imprisonment. On September 12, Tofig Yagublu was transferred to a private clinic amid the threat of a coma.

On September 14, Tofig Yagublu was visited by a doctor from the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson's Office, a member of the National Preventive Group. After the visit, the Office issued a statement treating the Yagublu's health condition as stable.

"At present, Tofig Yagublu refuses to eat; his health condition is stable; and he is under doctors' supervision. The case is in the focus of the Ombudsperson's attention," reads the statement posted on the website of the Ombudsperson's Office, as translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Nigyar Khazi, the politician's daughter, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in the evening on September 14, she was allowed to visit her father.

"He told me that he had already refused from intravenous drug infusions. Ha has stated that even if Professor Geibulla insists on the administration of intravenous drugs, he wouldn't agree," Ms Khazi said.
