Police treat law enforcers' raids in Dagestan as routine preventive measures

The checks in the village of Gubden have to do with law enforcers' reaction to the conflict in Manas, villagers have suggested. Ordinary preventive measures will take place in several republic's districts, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to journalist, Ruslan Kurbanov, about checks conducted in houses of residents of Gubden in the Karabudakhkent District, where the military servicemen arrived on July 16.

Law enforcers' raids in Gubden are taking place for the second time; law enforcers refuse to explain the reasons for the inspections and copy personal data of local residents, said Abdul, a villager. According to his story, his fellow villagers believe that the raids have to do with the events in Manas; and law enforcers want to intimidate villagers.

"It's like a punitive operation; armed law enforcers break through house doors at eight o'clock in the morning," said Abdurakhman, a villager. He has added that law enforcers asked villagers whether they pay for gas, electricity and water.

The idea of the raids is to check passports in order to prevent offenses, said Magomed Magomedov, the head of the Dagestani Branch of the MIA.

Opinions of Instagram users about the need for such raids have split. Some spoke out against, while others claimed the need for law enforcers' checks in view of violations in the housing and communal sphere, public order and others offences.
