In Volgograd, Azerbaijani student murdered because of national enmity

Investigators found that a man suspected of murdering an Azerbaijani student was a member of an organization engaged in cultivating hatred towards people of different nationalities. The investigators suggest that the suspect made a deliberate decision to murder a non-Russian.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 13, Azerbaijani native Timur Gavrilov, a student of a medical university, visited his friends, and when he was returning to his student dormitory, he was attacked. The young man got about 20 stab wounds and died on the spot. A 22-year-old resident of Volgograd was suspected of committing the murder. On June 21, the investigators reported that the suspect had been detained in Smolensk.

Today, the Investigating Department for the Volgograd Region of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported that the detainee was interrogated as a suspect. A video record from the interrogation has been made public.

At the interrogation held in Smolensk, the suspect claimed that the murder was motivated by hatred towards people of another nationalities, the "Bloknot-Volgograd" reports today with reference to a source from the law enforcement bodies. According to the preliminary information, the suspect did not know the victim earlier. "[The suspect] was 'handed over' to the police by his friends.
