Burdjanadze, Nino Anzoryevna

Georgia's Parliament speaker.

Born July 16, 1964, in the city of Kutaisi.

In 1981, graduated with honors from Kutaisi high school No. 2 named after A. Tsereteli and entered Law Department of Tbilisi State University named after I. Djavakhishvili.

In 1986, upon successful completion of the university studies, entered the graduate school of the International Law Department of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov.

In 1990, Nino Burdjanadze defended a thesis Problems of International Organizations and International Maritime Law and was honored with a degree of Master of Law (kandidat yuridicheskikh nauk).

Since 1991, worked as a docent at the Department of International Law and International Relations of Tbilisi State University; since 1994, was a research scientist at the diplomatic study. Authored about 20 works, published in Georgian, Russian, and English, including a monograph on new-type international intergovernmental organizations' issues.

In 1991-1992, Nino Burdjanadze was a consulting expert of Georgia's Ministry of Ecology, in 1992-1995, was a consulting expert of Georgian Parliament's International Relations Committee.

Since 1995, a member of Georgia's Parliament. In 1995-1998, occupied the position of first deputy chairperson of the Constitution, Law, and Legitimacy Committee, in 1998-1999 ? the chairperson of this Committee. In 2000-2001, a chairperson of the International Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament.

In 1995-1998, was the leader of the Georgian Parliament Permanent Delegation to the Parliament of the United Kingdom; in 1999-2002, was a co-chairperson of the Committee for Parliamentary Cooperation between European Union and Georgia.

In 1998-2000, was elected a speaker of the Democracy, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Issues Committee of the OSCE Parliament Assembly; since 2001, a Vice President of the OSCE Parliament Assembly.

In November 2001, was elected the speaker of Georgia's Parliament.

Starting November 2001, Nino Burdjanadze is also the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Community.

Hobbies: classical music, theater, flowers.

Married, two sons.
