Sources report detentions of activists in Ingushetia

Law enforcers detained two persons after searches in a case on a rally in Magas, and one more person was put on the wanted list, sources report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 4, in Ingushetia and North Ossetia, at least six persons were detained in the case on the rallies in Magas. On February 5, the Nalchik City Court pronounced a decision to take into custody four suspected participants of clashes with law enforcers.

On March 26, 2019, opponents of the Chechen-Ingush border agreement, who also succeeded in seeking the resignation of Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov, did not leave the square after the sanctioned rally in Magas. When the police tried to disperse them, clashes occurred between the protestors and law enforcers. Since early April 2019, mass arrests of activists took place in the republic, and at least 29 people were involved in criminal cases as defendants.

Within an investigation into the case on the last year's clashes in Magas, law enforcers conducted searches in three settlements in Ingushetia, including in the city of Nazran and the rural settlements of Surkhakhi and Kantyshevo, a source familiar with the situation reports.

According to the source, two residents of the republic were detained, and one more person was put on the wanted list, the newspaper "Ingushetia" reports today.

The detainees are Akhmed Chakhkiev and Akhmed Dugiev. Magomed Aushev, the third local resident, was not at home during the search, and he was put on the wanted list, the "Interfax-South" reports today with reference to an informed source.
