Dagestani journalists urge not to leave their colleagues' murders unpunished

The participants in the annual memorial party for the perished journalists in Makhachkala have expressed regret that murders of many Dagestani journalists still remain unsolved.

The memorial party took place on December 18 in Makhachkala. It was initiated by the Dagestani branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR). Editors and journalists of various republic's editions, as well as relatives and friends of the deceased journalists – more than 25 people – were present at the memorial party, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The event was opened by Ali Kamalov, the head of the Dagestani branch of the UJR, who noted that the Dagestan branch of the UJR had repeatedly appealed to various authorities to obtain information on the cases of murdered journalists. "From all the bodies we received letters that almost all the crimes had been solved," Mr Kamalov has stated.

However, according to his story, some of the journalists' murders were ascribed to third persons, who were not involved in the crimes, despite the obvious fact that the murders were customized.

Mr Kamalov has also reminded that in November 2018, friends, relatives and colleagues of the deceased journalists laid a memory alley at the Press House in Makhachkala.

Journalists planted 23 trees; each of them dedicated to the memory of one of the Russian journalists associated with Northern Caucasus, including the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev.
