Dagestan: deputy colony boss convicted for torture and extortions

The court has sentenced Ruslan Aliev, who being the deputy head of Correctional Colony No. 7 in Dagestan, used physical violence against the convict, as well as extorted and received a bribe from him, to eight years in prison, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported.

According to investigators, in November 2016, Aliev beat up one of the convicts, after which he demanded 400,000 roubles from him "as a bribe for creating favourable conditions for serving the sentence."

Aliev was found guilty under three articles: extortion of a large-scale bribe; abuse of office using violence; and attempted fraud by using his official position, the ICRF has stated without specifying when the trial took place.

The maximum penalty under the article on abuse of office with the use of violence implies imprisonment for up to ten years.

The court has also ruled to collect a fine from the former colony deputy head in the amount of more than one million roubles.
